Jim Tomasin, MSPT

Owner / Lead Physical Therapist

Jim was born and raised in Redding, California where he attended St. Joseph's elementary and Shasta High School. Jim was a three-sport athlete throughout high school and excelled in football and baseball. Jim continued with football at a collegiate level playing for UC Davis, where he graduated with honors earning his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physiology in 1990. Jim continued his education at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, graduating with his Masters in Physical Therapy in 1992. After graduation, Jim worked at the VA hospital in Palo Alto as a staff physical therapist. His tenure in their comprehensive rehab center included working with chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries and amputee patients.

Jim enjoyed his time with the VA hospital and feels working with our Veterans is very rewarding and educational. Jim returned to his hometown of Redding in 1993 where he joined the team of Redding Physical Therapy and soon became inspired to partner up with Steve Westlake and start-up Maxim Physical Therapy, where he is currently the lead Physical Therapist. Jim is a member of the Sports Physical Therapy Association, American Physical Therapy Association, California Physical Association, Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, and a member of Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Jim is a volunteer PT for the Justin Sports Medicine Team working the local rodeos and treating the rodeo athletes. Jim and his wife Nicole have a large family based on a small farm in Cottonwood. Their seven children are very active in sports and agriculture, keeping both of them very busy. Jim's hobbies include fishing, ranching, sporting events, and traveling. You will often catch Jim on the weekends coaching his kids on a field or in the gym.

Steve Westlake, MA, ATC, CSCS, PTA

Owner / Physical Therapy Assistant

Steve is a local product of Redding, graduating from Shasta High School in 1980. He continued his athletic and academic career at the University of Pacific where he played baseball for the UOP Tigers. Steve completed his undergraduate degree in 1984 in physical education with an emphasis in teaching, along with accepting a full scholarship to pursue graduate studies in Sports Medicine at UOP, which he completed in 1986. After working for 2 years in the Bay Area, Steve returned to Redding in 1988 and began his career with Hal Williams, running a prescription exercise program for Redding Physical Therapy.

In 1993, Hal and Steve expanded their sports medicine program offering services to the local high schools, including event coverage. Upon completion of his certification as an athletic trainer, Steve was able to expand his sports medicine services to bring training rooms into a few of the area schools. Though Steve's first love is treating athletic injuries; he also wanted the opportunity to treat other patients in a clinical setting. In 1996, he completed his licensure as a physical therapy assistant and continued to advance his knowledge and treatment skills: venturing to the start-up of Maxim Physical Therapy in 2002 and to this day having a presence in the health care community all around. Steve is married to his lovely wife Deanna and they have 2 kids (Aaron and Marissa) and 3 grandkids (Aiden, Chase, and Jordan). In his spare time, Steve enjoys exercising, playing golf, and being an active member of the Rotary Club of Redding.
