Steve is married to his lovely wife Deanna and they have 2 kids (Aaron and Marissa) and 4 grandkids (Aiden, Chase, Jordan, and Lilah). In his spare time, Steve enjoys exercising, playing golf, and spending time with family.

Certified Personal Trainer - Functional Fitness | Mobility | Injury Prevention
Joseph Kurung, CPT
Joseph was born and raised in Chico, California, where sports and fitness played a central role throughout his life. As a dedicated three-sport athlete, he continued his athletic career playing football at Butte College and UC Davis. After a serious adductor tear and subsequent surgery cut his football journey short, Joseph shifted his focus to understanding how the body works—particularly how to heal, move optimally, and perform at a high level over time.
His experience as a collegiate athlete opened doors to training alongside top experts in sports medicine, exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning. Over the years, Joseph has developed a unique training philosophy grounded in injury prevention, joint health, mobility, and functional strength. His sessions emphasize low-impact, full-body movements that build a strong foundation and progress safely and effectively based on each client’s needs and performance.
Joseph began working at Maxim Physical Therapy as a physical therapy aide, which allowed him to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of injuries and rehabilitation protocols. This role gave him deep insight into how the body responds to specific movements and recovery techniques. He now applies this knowledge to guide clients through customized programs that align with their goals, address physical limitations, and establish lasting results. His process is built on slow, intentional progression—evaluating how the body reacts to each phase and adjusting accordingly to optimize safety, form, and long-term health.
He understands that the hardest parts of a fitness journey are often getting started and staying consistent. As a trainer, Joseph provides more than just instruction—he offers accountability, encouragement, and a positive environment where clients can thrive. His goal is to educate, empower, and push each client toward their full potential—physically and mentally.
Whether someone’s goal is to improve strength, regain mobility, recover from injury, or simply feel better in their body, Joseph brings passion, professionalism, and purpose to every session.
